The New Shoes

I got my new running shoes today! I upgraded to the Nimbus 15. Tomorrow I'll wear them around all day but not run in them yet. I'm still taking 2 days off between runs, so Thursday is the day to really test them!

Sometimes, The Hardest Part of Running is Getting Out the Door

GetOutTheDoor.jpg

This was true today.  Mondays are always busy and today was no different. Since I was also still having a little bit of leg pain, I debated going for a run this morning. The weather has turned cold, so that doesn't help!

But I put on my layers and laced up my shoes! When it's done, I'm always glad that I went.

3 miles today and my leg felt much better. Not pain-free, but better! So I'll continue with 2 days off and no more than 3 miles until it's completely healed.

Worst case scenario over the winter is that I only get a few miles a couple times a week. But this will still put me in a better position come springtime.

Final Run or Injuries Happen

Yesterday I finished RunKeeper's "Running for Fat Loss" program! I like having a training program with a goal at the end. It keeps me on track! Since I don't own a scale, I don't know if I lost weight, but my jeans fit better.

Now, where do I go from here? I have a few running routes that are programmed into my app. A 4-mile, 5-mile, and a 7.5 mile, plus I can throw in some short fast runs and intervals.

Yesterday's run was also a little painful. The 5-minute warm-up walk was fine, then on the first :30 fast run, I felt pain in my lower back that ran down my right leg. It was gone when I walked the 2:30 interval, then felt it every time I ran again. My thoughts on this:

  • drink more water
  • pinched nerve, stretch more
  • get new shoes (I needed new shoes about 2 months ago!)
  • cut back on mileage and add more walking if necessary

In the meantime, I can concentrate on my new line of running jewelry that's coming soon!

I Love Running in the Fall

Running seemed to get easier when the weather became cooler. This is probably normal. Heat and humidity can make running almost unbearable.

Today I checked the weather before my run and it was 40 degrees. The coldest of the season. I know that around 50 degrees, I wear leggings and two long sleeve shirts. Forty degrees warranted UnderArmor. Two pair of leggings, one was UA, and two long sleeve shirts, one was UA. Warm socks and lightweight gloves. As soon as I stepped outside I felt like I was overdressed. That was the UA doing the job!

During the 5.5 run, I never felt cold or hot. Just right. I took off the gloves after the first mile, but I was glad I had them when starting out.

Luckily, today was sunny. There will be rainy, snowy days soon. I need to make sure I have all my winter gear ready to go!

See you on the trail!
